Mr. Bevao is 38 years old, a parents association president. He said that the public school lacks of good teachers and adequate infrastructure, drop out rate is about 25%. The nearest university is in Toamasina, 242 miles from Maroantsetra and graduated high school student cannot afford the transportation cost to go there. Maroantsetra is only accessible by boat and by plane.
Research and Development
Dr. Ratsimbazafy is 38 years old, Phd in entomology, he started the SEPALI project in 2006 by sensitizing the farmers to plant trees for the endemic moths of Madagascar. Since then, CPALI farmers have planted over 20,000 trees. Those who are rearing wild silkworms are considered as a wizard in the local belief.
Rearing Wild Silkworms and Harvesting Cocoons
Mrs. Marie is 49 years old , her husband Mr. Velo is 54 years old, the couple have 3 children and they are part of a network who provides cocoons for SEPALI. They owns a bakery made of bamboo wall and dream of building a concrete house. Their dream is still far from today's reality.
Ms. Dalina is 26 years old, she works full time for SEPALI and sells potato chips during each saturday in the local market. Maraontsetra's living cost is high for the local and one must fend for oneself to survive.

Since then, she learned to weave. Ms. Josea is 25 years old. She had to stop working because she has appendicitis and cannot afford hospital expenses.
Mr. Jaofeo is 36 years old, he has been working for SEPALI since 2007. He does sewing and fixes broken machine. Mrs Zoela is 24 Years old and a single mother, she has a 5 years old child and always struggling to pay the bills at the end of the month. Sewing cocoons one by one is time consuming and very meticulous work.
Ms. Cathy is 20 years old, after her dad became sick, she had to work to finance her younger sibling's studies. She is happy to work for SEPALI and wants to gain more experience.
Mr. Tsola is 20 years old, he was guarding pirogue before working for SEPALI. He didn't finish the elementatry school due to his parents lack of money. Today, his goal is to help his 3 years old son finish his studies. Mr. Tsola perfectly masters shibori, a Japanese technique of dyeing.
Mrs. Lalaina is 35 years old, leader of the women artisans association. Maroantsetra is isolated from the rest of the world and shipping the final product abroad by plane is twice expensive than the salary of all the workers and the raw materials cost combined.
